It works great for mapping out a D&D game! I use dry erase markers and they wipe off easily for me to put the mat away and reuse it the next week! I would just recommend taking it out of the packaging before your first use so that you can flatten it out.

Ok. It's big enough to have a lot of fun, but the folding gets in the way, that's because the folding lines have to be weighted down with books and things like that. It would be better if it was cutted cardboard and you can put the pieces together.

I am a 1-year experienced RN who is not only new to pediatrics, but also new to critial care, coming from adult med/surg. A friend of mine in the PICU lent me her Hazinski manual (the smaller edition) my first week in the PICU, calling it the "Bible". I have to say that I have dog-eared her book, referring to it practically every day when I get home. She has finally asked for it back, and so I now must get my own copy! It has been a Godsend to me. We have several copies of the larger edition on our unit, which is very comprehensive, so I have decided to purchase that one instead. Additionally, many other nurses on our unit owns one (it's contagious!). Just about everything you could want to know is in the book, and it doesn't speak to you as though you already know peds. critical care; it is truly an educational book in the best sense of the word. The inner covers have quick charts to refer to vital information, heart rates, respiratory rates, BSA Nomogram, fluid maintenance, resuscition equipment, etc. Our Education Department refers to them in orientation classes. The only thing I would love to see is a chapter on the very absolute basics, such as I&O's (which is included, but as part of chapters on dehydration, renal, cardiovascular, etc.), assessment of the critically ill child, skills, the key things to look for and report to the physician, etc. Just one small chapter like this for the very beginner. It would have been very helpful to someone like me in my first few weeks, and I believe a solid foundation is the best ground upon which to learn. I hope anyone buying this book enjoys it as much as my colleagues and I do.

Everything about pediatric intensive care nursing!

This book is amazing. Everything a PICU nurse needs to know. Covers in great detail pathophysiology and nursing care in intensive situations. I never write reviews but I had to because this book is so good. It covers pharm, picu procedures, ecmo, x-ray interpretation, and many other things that will make your PICU life easier. Very accurate information and probably the PICU bible for CCRN and nursing practice.

Crosscutting Social Circles describes a theory of groups' relations to each other, and tests the theory in the 125 largest metropolitan areas In the United States. The focus is on the Influence social structure exerts on intergroup relations. Blau and Schwartz show how role relations are influenced by how people are distributed among social positions. Blau and Schwartz test their theory by considering its impact on such structural conditions as intermarriage, an important form of intergroup relations.

The authors derive the main principles of previously formulated theories of intergroup relations and present them in simpler and clearer form. They empirically test the power of the theory by analyzing its ability to predict how social structure affects intermarriage in the largest American cities, where three-fifths of the American population live. They selected cities because population distribution of a small neighborhood might be affected by casual associations among neighbors; it is much more sociologically interesting if population distribution also affects mate selection in a city of millions.

Unlike most theories that emphasize the implications of such cultural orientations as shared values and common norms, this volume focuses on the significance of various forms of inequality and heterogeneity. As one of the few books that supplies a large-scale empirical test of implications of a theory, Crosscutting Social Circles serves as a model. The new introduction by Peter Blau reviews the origins and impact of the book. It will be of immense value to sociologists, psychologists, and group relations specialists.

About the Author

Peter M. Blau is Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Before that, he was Quetelet Professor of Sociology at Columbia University. Among his many publications are The Organization of Academic Work and Exchange and Power in Social Life, both published by Transaction in paperback.

Joseph E. Schwartz is professor of public health at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. He and Peter Blau worked together on this book when they were both at Columbia University. He is author of many articles in scholarly and professional journals.

About the Author
Richard S. Sharf has been a counseling psychologist at the Center for Counseling and Student Development at the University of Delaware for 37 years, providing counseling to university students. A solid textbook

I thought that this was a very thorough and easy-to-read textbook. It presented the information clearly and the progression of career development theories was in a logical order. My only complaint was that I occasionally had difficulty finding and referencing things that I knew I had read. It was something about the way the headings and index worked.

This is the most horribly written text book I have ever read

I wish "zero stars" was an option. This is the most horribly written text book I have ever read....and I've read a ton during undergrad, law school, MBA program, and now in a Master's program for counseling. It's repetitive, poorly organized, unclear, and unnecessarily elaborative in areas that I didn't even know could be elaborated upon. Excessively belaboring. I will learn more by googling the topics to be covered in this class than I will from this book.
