Excellent User Manual of the Sony A7RII!

In this excellent publication most aspects of the new Sony A7RII camera are very systematically presented, discussed and explained in a professional way, and in an easy to understand manner.
It is amazing to see how the author managed to collect and present very extensive sometimes complicated information in an easy to use format!
A very well set up index makes it easy to find answers to most questions, whereby finding and selecting information in the e-book version is very easy.
I purchased the color printed version and the e-book.

In my view the book version is graphically not well set up and printed.
The page format is too small and the binding too inflexible for a book to contain +630 pages.
Also the paper stock used is in my view too heavy and not of perfect quality to print full color illustrations.
As a consequence its difficult to handle this book while reading and the color reproductions are, contrary to the ones in the e-book, too often of poor quality.
I wonder whether there is a need for such an expensive (+$100) printed full color version?
Anybody who wants to enjoy the A7RII to its full will find a great help in the e-book edition.

I am frequently disappointed with reference books I buy, but not this time! I purchased "The Complete Guide to Sony's A7RII" from Gary Friedman.

The book is carefully written and includes a technical perspective that is very helpful in understanding real world use of the camera and associated gear. Gary also provides free revisions to the book that improve content and keep the material up-to-date.

Gary has also provided comprehensive answers to questions I have emailed him. His products, in total, are the best of the best and highly recommended!

Here's a book of criticism we _all_ will wish we'd written!

Missy Kubitschek's book does the impossible: she presents a thoughtful, educated, and appreciative reading of Morrison that makes these wonderful novels even more accessible than even good readers could imagine. For teachers who want to provide their students with a superb critical model, here it is. Look at the literate biographical first chapter. The "contexts" chapter moves smoothly and clearly through the critical whitewater of postmodernism, orality, and black identity. The chapters focusing on individual Morrison novels (even the daunting _Paradise_) illuminate Morrison's careful plot and characterization strategies. Best of all, each chapter showcases a particular critical strategy (formalist, historicist, archetypal, "Afro-modernist," etc.) as a lens through which to read the text. This is not only a brilliant teaching strategy, it's delightfully readable. I was surprised and moved all over again at the author's deft discussion of marigolds in _Bluest Eye_ and its subtle evocation of the Demeter/Persephone theme. It's the best discussion I've read of _Paradise_ and the chapter on _Sula_ brought that novel's power home to me years after my first reading of it. This is criticism at its very best.

I just wanted to say how much I LOVE this book! I have several at home but this is definitely my favorite. It has beautiful illustrations and very clear instructions on how to do the zentangle patterns. There are quite a few pages and plenty of ideas to keep you busy! The artist chose many patterns for this book that you can mix up and create so many unique designs from. Zentangle Art Therapy has been a number one bestseller in Germany on Amazon.de and thankfully it has been translated to English and sold in the US for us to enjoy! I highly recommend this book to add to your collection.

I learned new techniques especially on shading. The book was not repetitive even when I knew the tangle. I still benefited by the discussion More examples than other larger by page books. Great examples I deconstructed to understand how they were drawn. The book was worth every penny and fun to read.

I have to agree with the other less-than-five-star reviews. This COULD have been a 5. My copy arrived last week.
The book is beautiful, but every other Zentangle� book I've purchased (in the neighborhood of 10–12) provided Zentangle-style how-tos for every pattern shown. This book provides a lot of the basic tangles that appear in nearly every Zentangle book, but not the unique ones for which I bought it. And some of the basics have names other than the established or official names of the Zentangle originals. And there is no index to the patterns in the back, so you can't even locate the few how-tos easily. (I would like to see an index,both visual and text, in every Zentangle book, so I can stop wasting time looking for specific patterns or information.)
If you are going to publish a book in the Zentangle style, look, and feel, using your CZT on the cover, I think you owe it to the buying public to abide by the established protocol of the other books. I would be happy to pay more for a complete book. This one is decidedly incomplete.
As it is, I'm extremely disappointed that the tangles that drew me in are not provided.That's anti-therapeutic. Anya, it would be a good idea to publish a reasonably priced supplement with all the missing tangles and an index, please.

Excellent first drawing book for children

"Drawing with Lee Ames" is an extremely well illustrated book on drawing generally. He sketches rough figures advanced to a more refined drawing, by sequence; but I regard this book more as a reference book, and not the best of the field of beginner's drawing books. It is one of the larger books dealing with human figure drawing, at 261 pages, outsizing many other books by about 100 pages. With that much size, one might think Ames would include something on human anatomy, or the canon of proportions, but he has nothing on these matters whatsoever. His last 40 pages are entirely on Portraits. I believe some will find this book a value; children for example. In fact, what is a stunning surprise about Ame's book, is that there is virtually no text in it at all, with the exception of about 4 or 5 pages, and then only a paragraph of text per page. With the early pages demonstrating how to draw butterflies, cats, dogs, and dinosaurs, one could readily see that Ames has an ability to encourage children and the young to give drawing a try. It is a welcome addition to my home library, and I'm sure it has its place.

unique approach to drawing

Mr. Ames clearly takes a different approach to teaching drawing. He provides step-by-step sketches so a piece can be seen from the first few lines up to its completion. He totally avoids explaining any art technique, vocabulary, supplies, etc.
I like his approach very much, although it may be more helpful to break up the steps a little more in the more complex drawings. A beginner would also need to purchase other books (which he recommends) in order to learn drawing basics such as shading, perspective, etc.

Great step-by-step

This book is a great drawing book to follow. I don't have any real artistic ability and found I was able to follow the steps easily. Each step had enough to not be over whelming, but help lead you. My 9 year old is also enjoying. And since it has a little of everything (animals, still lifes, automobiles, people), there are lots of great choices.
