DAVID CRONIN is a Design Director at GE. He was also Director of Interaction Design at Smart Design, and a former Managing Director at Cooper.

CHRISTOPHER NOESSEL is Cooper’s first Design Fellow, and the co-author of Make It So. He teaches and speaks about design all over the world.

I don't want to ding this book on the content, the previous editions were great, but like another reviewer, the book literally cracked in half and pages started falling out the first time I (gently) opened it. Here is hoping that the publisher addresses the issue, or perhaps this is part of a bad run -- but it is pretty amazing that Wiley let these out the door.

Binding is terrible

This book gets five stars for the content. Unfortunately, a sticky note has more glue than the binding of this book. The first time I opend it the pages immediately started detaching from the spine. For a text book style book I found this very disappointing.

Want to know how to make great software products and systems? Buy this book, read it, and share with your team. There's really nothing like it.

This is the fourth version of a 1995 book by Alan Cooper that helped launch the interaction design discipline. Written for practitioners and cited by researchers, each edition of About Face has advanced the field. And this thoroughly updated edition will do the same.

Sure, you can read blogs on the web that have interesting tidbits to say about designing for social, the niceties of interactive data displays, or gesture design for mobile. And you can certainly buy books that offer design lessons and principles. But no other resource has tackled the subject at the methodical depth and breadth that Cooper's team of writers do here.

The material is useful for newbie designers (worth the price just for the consistent and battle-tested vocabulary). What's more, the book provides philosophies, methods, and resources that experienced design managers can use to build happy design teams that programmers and executives love to work with.

The writing is often playful, the design is elegant, and the ideas are incendiary. Enjoy!

About the Author

TK Lim obtained his Bachelor and Masters in Agricultural Science from the University of Malaya and his PHD (Botanical Sciences) from the University of Hawaii. He worked in the University of Agriculture Malaysia for 20 years as a lecturer and Associate Professor; as Principal Horticulturist for 9 years for the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, Darwin, Northern Territory; 6 years as Manager of the Asia and Middle East Team in Plant Biosecurity Australia, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Australia; and 4 years as Research Program Manger with the Australian Centre for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR), Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia before he retired from public service. He has published over a hundred scientific papers including several books: "Guava in Malaysia ' Production, Pest and Diseases", "Durian Diseases and Disorders", "Diseases of Mango in Malaysia", chapters in books, international refereed journals, conference proceedings (as editor) and technical bulletins in the areas of plant pathology, crop protection, horticulture, agronomy and quarantine science. He was also a reviewer of scientific papers for several international scientific journals. As Principal Horticulturist in Darwin, he and his team were instrumental in establishing the horticultural industry in the Northern Territory, Australia, especially on tropical fruits, vegetables, culinary herbs, spices / medicinal herbs and tropical flowers. During his tenure with Plant Biosecurity, he led a team responsible for conducting pest risk analyses and quarantine policy issues dealing with the import and export of plants and plant products into and out of Australia for the Middle East and Asian region. During his time with ACIAR, he oversee and managed international research and development programs in plant protection and horticulture covering a wide array of crops that included fruits, plantation crops, vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs and spices mainly in southeast Asia and the Pacific. In the course of his 4 decades of working career he has travelled extensively worldwide to many countries in South Asia, East Asia, southeast Asia, Middle East, Europe, the Pacific Islands, USA and England, and also throughout Malaysia and Australia. Since his tertiary education days he always had a strong passion for crops and took an avid interest in edible and medicinal plants. Over the four decades, he has taken several thousands of photographs of common, known and lesser known edible, medicinal and non-medicinal plants, amassed local literature, local indigenous knowledge, books, and has developed and established close rapport with many local researchers, scientists, growers and farmers during the course of his work and travels. All relevant available and up-to-date information collated on more than a thousand species of edible, medicinal and non-medicinal plants will be provided in a comprehensive reference series fully illustrated with coloured images to help in plant identification. Platinum standard for plant reference books

I have a pretty decent collection of books on plants and herbology, bushcraft, gardening, and naturopathic medicines. all the typical stuff and even a few that I'd call pretty decent. this series BLOWS THEM ALL AWAY!!

These series of books are hands down the most comprehensive resource ever written for edible plants. It give nice pictures and CURRENT information on chemical make-up, traditional uses, medical testing and studies, potential food, medicinal, industrial and commercial uses, growing info, distrbution, traditional names and about everything a person would need to know if they wanted to consume or use the plant.

There is a common name index and a scientific name index as well as an index of terms. this is the book we've all been waiting for and WELL WORTH the $200 price tag. simply a phenomenal addition to the library of any serious naturopath, doctor, or student of herbs and plants for practical use.

I just cant say enough good things about this series. Mr Lim has done what no-one has ever done at this level and has included all relevant and useful information from history thru 2012. THANK YOU SIR!!
