Good analysis of education trends in America
By T. J. Fortunato
This book was published in 2007 and goes over the political, social and economic issues related to public education in America. It gives a formal critique of No Child Left Behind and helps the reader analyze how government and social issues affect the type of education students are getting in the USA!

Superficial at best
By Zhimbo
This book consists of numerous, brief overviews of various issues, each written by a different author. The topics are broad and the chapters brief, so that the coverage is extremely superficial (the section "How should we teach in regard to culture?" in the chapter on multicultural education gets a total of 1/2 page).
The worst chapter is "The Controversy Over Brain Research", which doesn't cover any controversy, and instead is a completely 1-sided account. Moreover, it doesn't cite a single piece of actual brain research, being drawn almost entirely from second-hand informal reviews in educational journals. That's just unforgiveably shoddy.
PLEASE NOTE: This review also shows up as a review of the more recent edition. I reviewed the earlier edition, and have not seen the revised edition.
